What happens when you have another year packed of games planned to come out? You have many games to get excited about with all that is on the schedule! Here are the eleven games that I am getting excited about for this year, in no particular order.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD – This is my favorite game of all time and they are making an HD Wii U remake. That is all I need to say.
Hyrule Warriors Legends – I really do not know how they are managing to get Hyrule Warriors to run on a 3DS, but they are doing it, and it will have content special to the 3DS version! There is certainly an appeal to being a Legend of Zelda character and becoming the one-man army that completely obliterates entire hordes of enemies. Now you can do it on the go!
American Truck Simulator – Even I do not understand how towing twenty-four tons of cargo throughout Europe is appealing to so many people, and yet, I am one of those people. Now there will be a version set in the USA! Strap up precious goods, attach it to a Freightliner, mash the accelerator pedal, and watch the speedometer go from zero to sixty miles per hour in thirty seconds! Some joking aside, the people at SCS Software did a great job bringing a lot of quality and plenty of realism to present the challenges of what those truck drivers handle on a daily basis. This game is also going to be great for those who love to drive on road trips!
Fire Emblem Fates – Fire Emblem is probably my most favorite Nintendo franchise, and Fire Emblem Fates/Conquest is going to solve one of the biggest issues I have with the franchise: the cheesy shallow storytelling. There will be two different stories this time! Fire Emblem is one of those games where the mechanics are almost bulletproof, so I am looking forward to seeing what they managed to change. This will be one of the rare times I will buy both versions of the game at the same time.
Hitman – I generally like Hitman, after going through Blood Money many years ago and Absolution more recently. It certainly is a special kind of stealth game when you are not just an assassin, but an assassin in a classy suit pursuing high-value targets. Hitman games also had many ways of letting you do what you want, with varying degrees of success. It will be interesting to see how this game turns out.
Pokkén Tournament – I literally just found out about this game very recently, and all I can say is it is a Pokémon fighting game. How can I not get excited about this?
Star Fox Zero – Star Fox is coming back and it is coming to the Wii U! While the E3 2015 demo needed some help, I think this game will still be enjoyable and maybe even a bit funny because of the “chicken” Arwing-shape mode. I do not know much about this game but if it is a lot like Star Fox 64, I am looking forward to it.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – Deus Ex: Human Revolution is likable. It had very interesting style, the story is very focused on the ethics and issues around human augmentation, but what most interested me was the stealth combat. I had to work really hard to be sneaking in order to preserve what little ammunition there was. It was a satisfying stealth game. With that kind of predecessor, Mankind Divided should be in good standing.
The Legend of Zelda (Wii U) – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the best game I have ever played. At the time I played it, I said Skyward Sword is the closest to a perfect game I have ever played. There is plenty of reason for me to get excited about the new dungeons and gadgets Link will have on his next mission!
Horizon: Zero Dawn – There is just something about humanity’s abandoned civilization going back into what appears to relate more to the Stone Age, and fighting giant mech-monsters. Yes, there are other giant monster hunting games, but imagine doing that on something that looks as big as Horizon Zero Dawn during their presentations.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End – Kicking off what may be one of the best years in PlayStation history, Uncharted 4 is shaping to be incredible, including tech, story, humor, and gameplay. Perhaps the first game that can show the true potential of the PS4, I cannot wait for Nathan Drake’s new grand adventure in the world.
