The Raid Episode 25: Speaking in a Foreign Language

The Raid

We gave the rundown on the impressions of the new Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward expansion, and World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.2. Heroes of the Storm is getting its first expansion soon, and Batman: Arkham Knight was broken enough on PC, sales of that version has stopped, and it got us talking about game quality on releases.

Just as we were about to head to E3, Steam struck with its Steam sales, because in the land of the PC gaming, getting a game for a dollar is far more important than any upcoming Legend of Zelda game. The next Hearthstone patch was out, and we had a debate about the value and benefits of a home theater system compared to a good set of surround sound headphones.

The Raid Episode 23: One More for the H

The Raid

It is official. Anthony is hooked on “H” as Hearthstone increased its hold on the TGA staff. The International Dota 2 tournament also increased its hold on money as the prize pool continued to grow past $11.6 million. Remember the NVIDIA GeForce Titan X? It is already irrelevant after a couple months thanks to GeForce 980 Ti, which gives 90% of the performance at 2/3 the cost. And hey, Windows 10 is coming out at the end of July.

This week on The Raid, World of Warcraft has a new mount and a banhammer dropped on 100,000 accounts for bot usage. There is a Capcom Steam sale, amongst other small items. In big news, Windows 10 will be the “final” version of Windows, as Microsoft has major new plans to handle the operating system compared to the old days. WWDC 2015 is happening soon for Apple, so cue the rumors!

The Raid Episode 20: Expensive and Inexpensive

The Raid

Well, Anthony just about built a brand new computer over the four years’ work of upgrades done to the thing. Man, PC game sales can be a truly cheap way to game, and speaking of cheap games, Nick and Bronson talked Hearthstone, and you can’t be cheaper than free. With Final Fantasy XIV getting its first major expansion in just over a month, Bronson and Anthony spoke MMO experiences. As much as we hope AMD would become a viable competitor against Intel with their upcoming “Zen” processors, we realized that maybe they still won’t be able to catch up.

The Raid Episode 19: Cramped Empowerment

The Raid

Anthony got some serious new upgrades to go into his really cramped computer case. It was possible to fit it all in, and it did not explode. With Nick finding out his planned 4K television purchase did not support more than a 30 hertz refresh rate at 4K resolution, he had to turn his sights elsewhere, and stumbled upon some fancy 144 hertz computer gaming displays. DirectX 12 hype continued to build, and Hearthstone continued its compulsion reign.

The Raid Episode 18: Getting Hooked on Hearthstone

The Raid

How would we rank the MOBA communities from what little we seen so far? About the same as most people. Nick is not really into card games, but Hearthstone on the phone was very enticing. Steam Sales the mega-event is not here yet, but there are some enticing offers for the portion of April. Speaking to Steam, to reduce phishing, Steam is going to require a minimum $5 of Steam wallet money or spending to unlock the full features of the online service. With more news, we heard rumors of the setting of the next major Mass Effect game.

Things are Not That Easy - The Raid Episode 17

The Raid

Shadowplay is a great thing…but has some major functionality problems. PC building is easy assuming one has the knowledge of figure out the knowledge to figure out parts compatibility and the research involved. So, we found there is a reason why companies like Alienware and OriginPC exist. Windows 10 is coming this summer, and so is DirectX 12, which continued to excite Nick. Also exciting in a somewhat bad way, MMO dramas can get really scary.
