Xbox One Revealed with Revamped Kinect, New Controller, Lack of Games - Nick's Gaming View Episode #182

Nick's Gaming View Episode #182

I’m talking all about Microsoft’s official announcement of the Xbox One. How will the specs compare to that of the PlayStation 4 and how will the new hardware benefit the console? What has Microsoft revamped hardware-wise outside of the console itself? And when can we expect the console to launch and what kind of software library should we anticipate? THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. The awaited unveiling of Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox 360 has officially crossed and I am left confused, who signed off on naming the third Xbox the Xbox One? Yes, I understand it’s an all-in-one device that does everything including brushing your teeth, but were marketing complications ever considered? Anyways, moving on from the awkward naming of the console, Microsoft’s Xbox One integrates very similar hardware to that of the PlayStation 4 with a Blu-ray drive, octa-core processor based on AMD’s Jaguar design, 8GBs of RAM, USB 3.0 ports, and runs on an x86 Pc-style architecture, knocking out backwards compatibility. Microsoft also confirmed the console would launch with 500GBs of hard drive storage and will feature Wi-Fi Direct. Xbox One will also include an HDMI in to allow for integration with user’s cable or satellite services. As shown during the unveiling, owners of the Xbox One will be able to simply speak using the new Kinect to launch television, switch to a game, answer Skype calls, multitask with internet browsing and television watching, and more all by voice in a seamless fashion.

Thanks to the impressive hardware within the Xbox One along with the revamped Kinect that will come included with each and every Xbox One sold, Microsoft seeks to takeover the living room as they aimed for with the Xbox 360. Featuring a wide-angle 1080P high-definition depth camera capturing RGB color video at 30 frames per second, utilizing time-of-flight technology to send out light and measure the amount of time it takes to return, and even having the ability to read one’s heartbeat, Microsoft has revolutionized the Kinect making it more powerful than ever before. Along with the new Kinect, Microsoft has also remodeled the controller with over 40 technical and design innovations such as an updated directional pad, thumb stick, integrated battery compartment, and more ergonomic fit with vibrating impulse triggers. The controller will sync seamlessly with the new Kinect using the Wi-Fi direct technology creating a more integrated experience than before.

Confirmed to release later this year to compete with Sony’s PlayStation 4, Microsoft disappointed in the realm of games. Focusing primarily on redefining the television experience, the gaming experience took a hit. Happily for racing fans, Forza Motorsport 5 was announced, but via a teaser trailer, Electronic Arts took the stage to announce their new Ignite engine for next-generation consoles with FIFA 14 providing Ultimate Team exclusively on the Xbox One, Remedy announced their upcoming release titled Quantum Break, and Activision closed out the show with an in-game trailer of Call of Duty: Ghosts confirmed to run at 60 frames-per-second. Ubisoft also confirmed immediately following the announcement that Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag would make an appearance on the One, but this doesn’t come as a surprise. One surprise that does interest me is the fact that Steven Spielberg will be stepping behind the Halo franchise to create a Halo television series to run alongside the game series. While this sparked some excitement for me, it’s disappointing to not see any on-stage demos as seen with the announcement of the PlayStation 4, but Microsoft did catch my attention by announcing the Xbox One will receive 15 first-party exclusives within the first 12 months with 8 of the 12 being original franchises.

60 Minute Access: Kameo: Elements of Power Part 1

With the upcoming next Xbox event, Bronson decided that we should explore the first ever Xbox 360 game to be released, Kameo: Elements of Power. Of interesting note is this game was developed by Rare a few years before it became the Kinect Sports generator for Microsoft. Starting a new game, it has tech demo qualities in the rendering, while almost immediately throwing our protagonist into the action.

Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time: Okami HD Episode 2

Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time: Okami HD

Like Zelda games, Okami endorses breaking bots to find money. Amateratsu (the white wolf) quickly learned many new brush techniques as we traversed through the linear level. After learning enough brush skills, Amateratsu restored a village, only to find it in a strangely still state. The brush could fix that too.

TGA GameKraft GameKast Episode 107: You Get a Layoff!

TGA GameKraft GameKast

This episode turned out to be one of the best in a long time. Due to Nintendo’s decision to claim copyright and ad revenue on game walkthrough commentaries, this policy has an effect on shows like TGA’s Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time. We discussed how questionable the decision is. And the negative attention on Nintendo continues when an EA senior engineer calls the Wii U crap. There were a lot of things we talked about, and a huge amount of humor and skewing off the road occurred.

Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time: Okami HD Episode 1

Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time: Okami HD

Super Mega Awesome Go Play Time has returned! For this series, we have chosen to feature Okami HD. Released in 2006, it is a very well acclaimed game, but was overshadowed by the many major releases during that year. With the relatively recent release of the HD version, we dove in. The story begins with the telling of a legend, which nearly took up all the time of this first episode. Our terrible voice acting also makes its return.

Big Budgets with Big Announcements - Unscripted Access Episode #46

Unscripted Access Episode #35

Gran Turismo 6 was announced, EA will no longer have online passes, Ubisoft has a sequel and “a new creation” in the works, Grand Theft Auto V will not be at E3, and Nvidia announced preorders and pricing for Project Shield.

The news we have for this week’s episode of Unscripted Access all came from studios and companies with a lot of money flowing. The best-selling Gran Turismo franchise gets its latest game announced, Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3. We think GT6 staying on the PS3 is a good thing. Amid major amounts of backlash in a last couple years, EA has announced that they will no longer do online passes. Ubisoft said in a report that they have two unannounced titles, one of which is a new creation. With Grand Theft Auto V generating more publicity than almost everything else gaming, we were not surprised that they will not be at E3 this year. And sticking to our “big money” news theme, NVIDIA has announced preorders and pricing for the Project Shield portable gaming system. The system will cost a very dear $350.

We will leave the rest to your ears, but trust me, this is not an episode to be missed. As always, we wrap up the show answering the various questions received from our last episode from our dedicated audience who enjoyed Unscripted Access Episode #45. Unscripted Access commence!

Gran Turismo 6 Redefines Driving Simulation on PS3 - Nick's Gaming View Episode #181

Nick's Gaming View Episode #181

Gran Turismo 6 redefines driving simulation on PS3, PlayStation 4 ‘s developer engagement out powering any previous PlayStation console, and Ubisoft teases two unannounced titles, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. As forecasted on Monday’s episode of Nick’s Gaming View, Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, has officially announced Gran Turismo 6 for PlayStation 3 with a release of this holiday season. Featuring seven all-new locations including UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit bringing the total to 33, additions to the car lineup bringing the total to 1,200, and much deeper customization combined with an improved engine, Gran Turismo 6 is once again shaping up to outdo its predecessors dating back 15 years to date. Promising expanded connectivity with other devices and increased social and community functions, Gran Turismo 6 will undoubtedly be a top seller this holiday season, I’m just personally hoping to see better implementation of damage than what was seen in Gran Turismo 5.

With the PlayStation 4 also releasing this holiday season, PlayStation has a huge holiday season ahead of them. Commenting last week on an “amazing big title coming to Vita”, Shahid Ahmad, Senior Business Development Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has made an exciting statement regarding PlayStation’s upcoming console, “We’ve got more developer engagement on PS4 than we’ve had for any previous console, so that’s a really healthy sign.” While the PlayStation 3 had a rough start with developers, such statement when comparing to the support of the PlayStation 2, is pretty valuable.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Ubisoft has released its full year earning reports and while such reports are usually boring to those who do not possess stock in the company, Ubisoft has caught attention with the statement “revenue generated from games for core gamers is expected to rise strongly, with notably the launch of five major titles versus three last year. This line-up includes Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs, and two titles that have not yet been announced, including one new creation." With E3 right around the corner, I would expect to hear of both titles during the event, but until then, all I can say is Ubisoft is providing a plethora of high quality releases that are sure to provide Ubisoft with another incredible year.

60 Minute Access: Deadly Premonition Part 3

We got out of the creepy area, and onto the road, where Francis had to run quite a ways to meet the deputy sheriff of Greenvale. Zach makes another humorous appearance, and we went through another creepy dream sequence. Turned out that even though Greenvale is a small town, it had a huge five-star hotel.
