BioShock Infinite Review

BioShock Infinite Review

What a strange beast Bioshock: Infinite is. It triumphs, it falls. It aims high, and hits, yet misses at the same time. It's a lot to think through, and even though I've had a few days now to let it sit in my head, my mind has only had more to think and ponder on. To put it simply though, there's a saying about aiming for the moon, so that if you fall short, you're still among the stars. Ignoring the fact that stars are much farther out from the Earth than the moon, Bioshock: Infinite is the perfect example of aiming for the moon, shooting past the stars, and damn near getting there.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

There are few movie franchises as successful, entertaining, and enjoyable as Aliens. Gearbox Software recently put out two of the best games of the generation, Borderlands and Borderlands 2. So you would think that this would be a match made in heaven, and Aliens fans would get their first great game. Well you would be horribly, horribly wrong. At its best, Aliens is a passable game. At its worst, it's a broken, buggy, ugly mess.

Anarchy Reigns An Action-Packed Brawler (Review)

Anarchy Reigns Review

Anarchy Reigns is madness, a game where black holes, air strikes, and a pimp dragon punching a robot is something that happens all within a ten minute match. That is what it would leave you to believe, but really it is a solid brawler with a lot of problems that hinder the game. The question is can these be overlooked? Read to find out!

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Video Review

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Video Review

It seems obviously natural that Sonic the Hedgehog with his hyper-speed runs would fit into a racing game easily. Unfortunately, most Sonic racing games in past were either mediocre, lame, or qualified to be one of the worst games that ever carried the Sonic franchise name. It was with some concern that Sega commissioned yet another kart racing game staring the hedgehog, his friends, and other Sega notables. This effort does deserve a closer inspection though, as within the development team is some former members of Bizarre Creations. This former game studio made its name through Project Gotham Racing and Blur. With some better credentials, the team at Sumo Digital may be able to achieve a good Sonic racing game.

Assassin’s Creed III: A Game that Made History (Review)

Assassin's Creed III Review

The ground-breaking story from Ubisoft Montreal has again hit another success with Assassin’s Creed III. The historical database lets us take a look into the 18th century and the Revolutionary War when George Washington reigned as Commander in Chief and experience the lives of two very different civilizations. Biting their finger nails down to the bone, fans had remained anxious down to the very last minutes of its release knowing they were in for a treat, me being one of them. By blowing away the critics and LITERALLY revolutionizing the name, this has to be by far the most absolute best title of the franchise. As its’ predecessors have done in the past, stunning it’s audience with a gripping story and historical events and adversaries, accompanied with Ubisoft’s tweaks and twists. Scores decline from the previous Assassin’s Creed. It is as if there is no more conflict between the Templars and Assassins. So many new features, read more for a closer look and see what is hot and what is not.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted: A Criterion Game (Review)

Need for Speed: Most Wanted Review

If video game franchises could have an identity crisis, Need for Speed would be a good place to look. It started in 2009 with NFS: Shift, a circuit racing game. Then, Criterion Games attempted to bring the franchise back to its roots with NFS: Hot Pursuit a year later. Circuit-racer Shift 2 came out next year, but movie-action-racer EA Black Box was not quite done yet with the franchise, and released NFS: The Run several months later. So the franchise has three identities to sort out. Actually, make that four because it even got its own free-to-play MMO. The confusion won’t let up anytime soon, as Need for Speed: Most Wanted, an open-city police chase racer from Criterion Games, just got released. Is it any good to the franchise? Dishonored A Fresh, Yet Artificial Experience (Review)

Dishonored Review

Stealth is a unique genre that's gotten popular these days. Thanks to Assassin's Creed, Hitman, and Rocksteady's take on Batman, stealth, even if only a part of a larger action game, has jumped to the forefront of the gaming marketplace. That said, it is an interesting genre that few attempt, and it often shows. More likely than not, the stereotypical stealth game often brings light to the fact that stealth is hard to do right. Whether it be a fault in the core mechanics, or the confusion that manifests when one tries to adapt to the controls, stealth games can often be found flat on its face because its shoelaces are tied together. Another trope that is known for leaving a sour taste in the typical gamer's mouth is the first-person melee-focused game. Unless you're an Elder Scrolls or Riddick game, chances are you've received nothing but bile from the hardcore gamer, and often for good reason. The Thief series tackled these issues well, but add on the challenge of making full-on combat an equally probable and fun route through the game, then add the massive obstacle of making all of this accessible to the average gamer, and you'll have a rough idea of what Arkane Studios' Dishonored is tackling here. Borderlands 2 An Incredible Successor (Review)

Borderlands 2 Review

The first Borderlands was a huge success; praised by critics and gamers for it's co-op, humor, crazy guns, and ability to stock pile loot. That said, it had problems including a weak story, a desolate wasteland (Pandora) that wasn't really fun to explore, and the single player was a grind. Now Borderlands 2 is here and it keeps all of the good while getting rid of the bad. Read more for my full review!
