Just as the title says, it is a "possibility". The reason I bring this up is due to the display boxart that can be found on Sony's site. If you look closely, you'll see not only the "Only on PlayStation" tab, but you should also see the "PlayStation Network" tab. It may be surprising, but at the same time it shouldn't be unexpected. Fans of the series should be familiar with the online modes that Insomniac graced Up Your Arsenal with. That being said, until an official statement is issued it is just speculation for the time being. The game could feature a full online competitive mode, only leaderboards or nothing at all.
Take for instance, this MAG box art.
Notice that it only has the "Only on PlayStation" tab and fails to include the network tab, which we all should know isn't the case. This is due to the fact that these display boxes aren't necessarily final, and are only featured until an official cover is revealed.
With that being said, there still is hope. A few days before an official word was released regarding Uncharted 2: Honor Among Thieves online component, there were a few observant people who noticed the same situation for the Uncharted 2 display art also showcasing the network tab. This, among a few other things set the internet on fire with rumors of the possibility of Uncharted 2 featuring online multiplayer, which eventually proved to be the case.
Until Insomniac or Sony makes an official statement regarding the issue, we can only wonder, but this should just make you wonder a bit more on the possibilty. Would Insomniac really bring online multiplayer back to their beloved franchise? Will Sony want to push for yet another franchise to include competitive multiplayer? I personally believe so.
