SCEA and Codename Join Forces on PlayStation Home

Codename Games

SCEA has just announced that a plethora of new games from Codename, an independent game company, will be featured exclusively on PS3 in PlayStation Home. An agreement has been made between Sony and Codename to bring more attention to PlayStation Home and the PlayStation 3 for indie developers. Read more for more information on this new partnership.

Each game is said to "further solidify PlayStation Home’s place as a leading social game platform" and provide a unique experience to users of PlayStation Home. Below are the four titles Codename has introduced that will launch over the next several months.

  • Dueling Gentlemen, created by Odd Gentleman, players strategize the right moves on a giant stage in Home’s Plaza, to outsmart opponents and win this old-time battle for honor and prestige.
  • Minor Battle, created by Peanut Gallery, winner of the IndieCade 2010 Audience Award, a team-based game where two teams run around a cube of four screens to beat each other in a capture-the-flag style platformer.
  • Super Awesome Mountain RPG, created by Codename, a blend of tabletop board games and fantasy RPGs, where players ascend a fantastical mountain in Home’s Central Plaza using a custom animated figurine.
  • Cogs in 3D multiplayer, a multiplayer version of Lazy8’s diabolically clever Steampunk-style game, this gear-based puzzler will also be a dynamic public spectacle in Home’s Central Plaza.

This should be a pleasant surprise to those who still utilize PlayStation Home and find it as a true social gaming platform. What do you guys think of this new partnership?

Beta

Wow. Home is certainly garnishing a negative reputation for itself. It's understandable too; the only version gamers have had to play with is the beta iteration, not the final edition. With such a massive vision for this project, Sony definitely needs help developing freemium games. Who better than indie game developers? I've been using Home recently, it's been improved since it originally launched. I'm sure Sony will find a way to blow our minds with Home. It will just take time. smilies/wink.gif

True Social Gaming Platform!(?)

ROFLMAO! Wow, just no. Do not want. Home is for kiddies and pedophiles only, not gamers. smilies/cry.gif

Ugh, Home, seriously?

Playstation Home is just about the lamest thing Sony has ever created (well, other than the Dash). Why would any development company develop for the Home. Just make stuff for the PS3 directly. Home sucks.

...

I am interested to see how this takes off. Maybe Sony will begin to acquire more indie developers to further enrich the PlayStation Home service. Only time will tell.
