With releases such as inFAMOUS 2, SOCOM 4, Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, and many more along with the upcoming releases of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Resistance 3, Twister Metal, and even more, 2011 has laid out one of the best years throughout the PS3’s life cycle. Many feel as if the gaming industry does not need another PlayStation or Xbox in the near future as the plethora of content still being delivered and the quality of the content displayed is becoming noticeably improved year after year. With that said, we all know by now that Nintendo revealed their upcoming platform, the Wii U, during their E3 2011 Press Conference with a slated release of 2012. Read more for the recent details leaked from two highly reputable sources on the current progress of Sony’s PlayStation 4 console.
Foxconn and Pegatron Tech, manufacturers of the current PlayStation 3 models, unveiled that Sony will once again be working with them for the manufacturing process of their next console starting at the end of year in preparation for its release in 2012. Sources claim that Sony will aim to ship 20 million consoles throughout 2012 featuring body movement-based control like Kinect.
While none of this has yet to be confirmed from the true source in this situation, Sony, the evidence that has been released from the two Taiwan-based partners is very convincing as they are the ones currently involved in the assembly of current PS3 units. Now while many may assume that Sony is trying to get the ball rolling as soon as possible in reaction to Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console, last month, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, Jack Tretton, had the following to say when asked about PlayStation’s reaction to the Wii U.
“I didn?t see anything about Nintendo?s announcement that said ‘Oh, we?d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.”
I don’t know about you guys, but next year seems “pretty soon” to me if this report turns out to be accurate. We will all just have to wait and see what happens throughout the rest of 2011 leading into 2012 and hopefully when it comes time for Sony to unveil the PlayStation 4, they offer an experience we could have only dreamed of previously.
