Have you been dying to play some Killzone 3 multiplayer but haven?t had the money? Have you considered selling blood at a dangerous pace to get enough money to buy it? No? Then great, because Killzone 3 multiplayer is becoming free-to-play on its one-year anniversary, which is today! Read more inside! (Also, if you said ?yes? to the previous question and can barely read these words, I suggest you get yourself to a hospital.)
In an interesting new strategy, Guerrilla is putting their latest game?s multiplayer up on PSN for everyone to enjoy. Starting today, Tuesday, February 28, you can download the multiplayer free of charge and play to your heart?s content in the Warzone, Guerrilla Warfare, and Operations modes. You even get to play all the DLC maps for free as well! Once you hit Sergeant I, however, you cannot proceed through the ranks, and you?ll have to pay $15 for the multiplayer, which isn?t a harsh price for a fun multiplayer game.
Also worth noting is that this weekend will be a Double-XP weekend, but will only apply to those who have paid for their Killzone multiplayer, disc or uprade from free-to-play. Double-XP weekend will start Friday, 11am EST and end Monday, 5 a.m. EST.
It will be interesting to see how Sony and Guerrilla benefit from this free-to-play strategy. If it does well enough, we may see more free-to-play modes from other developers in the coming years.
