Sega and Platinum Games have released a demo for both the Japanese PSN and Xbox Live. It only took 10 minutes to create a Japanese PSN account. The demo is 1.2 GBs. It is in English but the text is in Japanese. Read more for the details.
The demo gives you a nice chunk of action and is a good preview of what is in store when the game releases. The gameplay will heavily resemble Devil May Cry because Hideki Kamiya, the creator of Devil May Cry, leads the development here.
There is a tutorial that will show you what you can do, but it is skippable for those who want to get right into the action. Pulling off strings of combos is always awesome. Putting together punch, kick, shoot, jump, and a leg drop guillotine move, if done right, rakes up a ton of combo points. And depending on the situation and enemy, she will release the dreadful demon hair monster. That's right, her hair and suit, when summoned with a two-button press after a combo, turns into a super large demon that can bite the heads off Goliath sized enemies.
Bayonetta's weapons vary. There are guns on her boots, guns in her hands, and a plethora of enemy weapons that you can pick up. I found a saxophone from a enemy that happened to be a bazooka. There was one thing I thought didn't make sense. It's that I could defeat an enemy and pick up his 40 foot axe, which for reason would shrink down and fit on her back.
The demo ends with a boss fight that will boggle your mind. The boss has the ability to walk across any surface. God like right? Bayonetta can walk across any surface as well. Holding the X button, on the PS3 controller gives you the ability to follow your enemy, and combat them.
The camera pans out and follows your character. As frantic as it is in this boss fight, the camera can at times get a little out of hand and confused. But is mostly controlled by you.
All in all the demo was enough to satisfy my needs to see if Bayonetta was gonna be a purchase for me. It contained a ton of action and a good idea of what is in stores for potential buyers. The PS3 version looks great but could be a little sharper. I never came across anything that looked lacking, so don't be worried PS3 users.
