I would agree with you that damage doesn't typically matter. There are countless racing games that either had half-ass damage or none. But none of those claimed to be "The Real Driving Simulator". All we're saying is that you can't be a true simulator if you don't include damage. That's it. GT5 will more than likely be gorgeous and have outstanding driving physics. But the lack of damage is a glaring omission. And I would want to go against people who can't drive. Easy wins. Otherwise you're stuck with people who can't drive bouncing off railings and you to get ahead.
