Have you heard of Gaymercon yet? If not, you will. It is a new convention for LGBT gamers that is quickly spreading on the internet. Whether straight, gay, lesbian, bi, queer, transgendered and all in between, you definitely need to check out this up-and-coming event and give your support! It will be huge. I, Emily Royce, am one who strongly believes in love. Why should gender matter if they are what makes you happy? When I heard there was a gaming event planned for next year in San Francisco that focused on gamers like me, I was excited! It is the first of its kind and the event needs our help to make it happen! Gaymercon is the first gaming and geek lifestyle convention with a focus on LGBT culture. The event is scheduled to take place on August 3rd and 4th of 2013. Gaymercon is welcome to all, not just the LGBT community. The event will involve all geek culture, tech talk, gaming, partying, you name it. It’s just another reason for the gaming community to get together and have some fun! The only difference is Gaymercon was created to help support the LGBT community. As well as educate the gaming community of the presence of sexuality in our digital lives, promoting acceptance and social change through gaming.
Why Gaymercon you ask?
“Gaming is a gargantuan, billion dollar industry-and despite its enormity, there still lacks an outlet for alternative gamers in the world. It is equally as hard for publishers to connect with and reach out to that audience.
Gaming is a common shared experience that helps us escape, educates us and helps to define who we are and want to be. Gay, Black, Latino, Lesbian, Asian, Kinksters, Women, Transgendered, Bi, Nuns, Swedes, Hipsters, Brownies, Trekkies, Xbots, Robots, Holograms, Dwarves, Lawyers and Monsters. #EveryoneGames.”
Gaymercon creator Matt Conn brings in many well known people of the gaming industry to support Gaymercon. This includes Ellen McLain (Voice of GLaDOS in Portal 1 & 2), John Lowry (Voice of Sniper in Team Fortress 2), SMBC Theater (Youtube Channel), The Trevor Project (Leading National LGBT Suicide Prevention Organization) and more! Sarah Gordon and I are also big supporters of this event and are doing what we can to help Gaymercon happen.
This event has the potential to be something big, fun and exciting! This will make history in the world of gaming as being one of the biggest and only LGBT gaming conventions to exist! Who wouldn’t want to be a part of making that happen? They already blew their Kickstarter page out of the water! Achieving their goal to fund the venue in less than 4 days! The amount of support from the community so far makes me proud of our society today. We wouldn’t have been able to do this in the past.
The best way to help of course is to spread the word! Tell everyone you know and don’t know who will give a listen! Tell your local LGBT organizations! Tell them all! Help Gaymercon by making its mission known and you will be able to attend this new event for the first time in history in beautiful San Francisco! One of the top LGBT communities! You can even check them out at www.Gaymercon.org to see how you can help volunteer!
